It opens at the top and comes with 2 wooden dowel perches. This picture shows that we've added 2 natural wood perches, a chew toy and also added a sand perch. You could do the same, that part is up to you. There are 3 cups for food, water and treats that even our very clever macaws cannot tip. Refilling is fast and easy because access is from the outside. Clean up is a breeze as even when the birds explore outside the cage, the skirt keeps messes in the cage not on the floor. The other model, the smaller picture, is a different shape, 24" x 22" x 58" has square legs joined with bars which can accomodate a shelf for storage and a dome enclosed top. Space between the bars is 3/4". Move easily on casters from room to room giving your pets privacy or keeping them in the center of activity.
